I Wish I'd Known: Young People, Drugs and Decisions Customer Reviews
:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- A must read for anyone who has any interaction with young people/teenagers : This book arms the reader with solid information about drugs and their effects. It details how parents, grandparents, carers and youth workers can help young people to find their way in social situations where simply saying no isn’t an easy or straightforward option in their world, where drugs are normalised and more accessible than ever. The conversation suggestions throughout in particular are what make this book so good. All this is wrapped around the author’s experiences after her sixteen year old son Dan died. Thank you Fiona for this book and for the educational work of the Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 8, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Audi Driver -- Essential reading for parents of all ages : Brilliantly written and easy to digest, this book tells us everything we need to know to help our children navigate today's society. When I was young the message was 'Just say no' to drugs, but social situations for youngsters, especially teenagers, has become so much more complex I can barely begin to comprehend the difficult decisions and pressure situations they are faced with. This book gives such brilliant guidance, and delivers it gently, from someone who genuinely cares, that it really should be part of every parents essential reading list. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from busy mum -- Need to read : Felt with two teen boys it was necessary to read up. Hard hitting and frightening but important to know. Has prompted some honest discussions and has made me realise, they will tell us what they want us to hear but we need to equip them with the skills they may not need they know. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Chloe V. -- Everyone who cares for or cares about young people should read this : I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is beautifully written and makes this challenging but incredibly important subject accessible to the reader. It is packed with sound, sensible advice based on up to date research on adolescents and their drug and alcohol use. As a mother of 3, now 16-22 years old I am hugely grateful for this information at this point, however I am aware that there have already been some close calls that may have been avoided if we'd known more earlier. As a mother, and a mental health professional working with children and young people, I will be recommending this book wholeheartedly to friends and colleagues alike.
